Born in Taiwan in 1979, Yi-Cheng Chiang received a scholarship from the Tzu-Chi Buddhist Foundation to study for her Bachelor's degree at Fu-Jen Catholic University in Taiwan. She then came to England to pursue her Master's degree (MA) with a scholarship for new students from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where she studied with Joe Cutler and undertook further studies at the University of Birmingham. In 2006, she was awarded a Ph.D. in Musical Composition under the supervision of Erik Oña and Scott Wilson. Yi-Cheng Chiang was also awarded the Barber Scholarship from the University of Birmingham for the academic years 2003-2004 and 2004-2005.

Yi-Cheng Chiang has won several awards, including being the prize winner of the Judith Lang Zaimont International Composition Competition (2009). She was selected for the composers’ shortlist by SPNM (Society for the Promotion of New Music, UK) from 2005 to 2008, and she won the Tsang-Houei Hsu Composition Competition in Taiwan (2004). Additionally, she was the prize winner for literary and artistic creation in Taiwan (National Taiwan Arts Education Centre) in both Ensemble (2004) and Chorus (2005), and she won the UMS Composition Competition at the University of Birmingham (2004), among others.

Her music has been performed in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. In recent years, she has actively collaborated on various interdisciplinary performances and productions, engaging with other fields, including video installations, interactive visual media, and object sound installations, to explore diverse cross-disciplinary forms. Furthermore, she is engaged in organising and overseeing several important international collaborative activities.

Yi-Cheng Chiang is currently a professor of Musical Composition at the National Taiwan University of Arts in Taiwan.
